Eligible Dependents

Who can be added to an employee's benefit coverages?

  • Legal Spouse (common-law spouses in Texas only)
  • Biological Children
  • Adopted Children
  • Stepchildren

How old must a child be to be covered under an employee's benefit plan?

  • Medical: A qualifying dependent child can be covered under an employee's medical plan up to the age of 26. On the child's 26th birthday they will be dropped from the plan.
  • Dental and Vision: A qualifying dependent child can be covered under an employee's dental and/or vision plan up to the age of 25. Children ages 19-25 must provide proof of full time student status to qualify. On the child's 25th birthday they will be dropped from the plan.

Important:

Enrolling an ineligible dependent on your plan could result in termination of your employment.


Dependent Verification

Employee's must verify the eligibility of any dependents they wish to cover on their Medical, Dental, Vision and/or Supplemental Life Insurance plan.

Documentation for all newly covered dependents must be uploaded into the benefits enrollment portal, www.mydtbenefits.com, prior to the benefits coverage effective date or the dependents enrollment will be cancelled. Once signed into the portal, click on Dependent Verification and then on How Do I Submit Documents.

Examples of acceptable documentation:

  • Marriage Certificate for your spouse
  • Birth Certificate for your children
  • Adoption Paperwork
