When can I make a change to my benefit coverages?

The government has regulations on when a company can allow employees to enroll, cancel or change their benefit coverages. There are three options:


New Hire Enrollment

First 30 days of employment, for a coverage effective date on the employee's 31st day of employment.

Open Enrollment

Once per year during open enrollment, a 2 week period in the fall for an effective date of January 1st of the following year.

Qualifying Life Event

Within 31 days of a qualifing life event. See list of qualifying life events below.

Qualifying Life Event

If you experience a qualifying life event, you may enroll, cancel or make changes to your and/or your dependent benefit elections within 31 days of the qualifying life event. Any change requested must be consistent with the qualifying event.

Have a qualifying event and need to make changes to your benefit elections? Follow these two steps within 31 days of the qualifying event:

  1. The employee will need to contact our enrollment center at (855) 430-4558 to make their enrollment changes.
  2. The employee will then need to upload the verification documentation for the qualifying event to (click on Dependent Verification then How Do I Submit Documents).

Examples of qualifying events:

  • Marriage
  • Divorce
  • Birth of a newborn
  • Adoption of a child
  • Death of a covered spouse or dependent
  • Gain of coverage elsewhere
  • Loss of coverage elsewhere
  • Change in employment status (Full Time to Part Time and vice versa)
  • Change in dependent eligibility

Qualifying events must be submitted within 31 days of the event. See steps 1 and 2 above on how to process your request.
