money!
Savings with a Flexible Spending Account
The Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account allows you to
set aside up to $5,000 annually on a before-tax basis to pay for
eligible dependent care expenses. (Please note: dependent care
expenses refers to day care, not medical expenses for
dependents.)
How it Works
- The family maximum you can set aside in one year is $5,000.
Your annual election should be determined based on the date you are
eligible to start participating in the program through June
30th.
- If you join the plan mid-year and previously participated in
another employer's dependent care FSA, your maximum combined annual
contribution under both plans is $5,000. It is your responsibility
not to exceed the maximum combined annual contribution limit.
- Your deductions are put loaded into your Flexible Spending
Account after payroll is processed. PLEASE NOTE: This is different
from the Healthcare FSA, and does not load your full election onto
your card after the first payroll is processed.
- Once funds are loaded you can either use your FSA card if your
provider accepts it, or submit a reimbursement claim form with a
receipt from your dependent care provider to United Healthcare,
DriveTime's FSA administrator. Reimbursement up to the balance in
your FSA is usually made iwthin 10 business days of receipt of your
completed claim form by UHC.
"Use it or Lose It" Rule
- You will have 3 months following the end of the plan year to
submit claims for eligible expenses incurred from your coverage
effective date through your coverage end date. If you have funds
remaining in your account after this point, the funds will be
forfeited, as required by IRS regulations. it is very important
that you carefully estimate the amount of your FSA
contirbutions.
When You Can Enroll
- Your election must be submitted online within 60 days of your
hire date or within 31 days of a Family Status Change event, such
as gaining a new dependent. You may also enroll during DriveTime's
benefits Open Enrollment. If you do not re-enroll, your
participation will cease.
